Will Neuralink plant brain chips in 2022? • ENTER.CO

Billionaire Elon Musk is still in the news. This time, he announced that the chip he’s been working on lately, his brain interface technology company Neuralink, would be ready for human testing next year.

Previously, the businessman had announced that the experiments could begin at the end of the year, however, he assured that next year will be the appropriate date to do so.

Musk believes that people with mobility problems can walk again “but not naturally.” He also argued that he hopes that problems such as depression and addictions can be controlled through this chip.

The news was announced on the Daily Mail website, through an interview broadcast as part of the Wall Street Journal CEO Council Summit, which took place on Monday, December 6. When asked about the company’s plans for the coming year, Musk commented:

“Neuralink is working well in monkeys and we’re actually doing a lot of testing and just confirming that it’s very safe and reliable and that the Neuralink device can be safely removed… We hope to have this in our first humans, which will be people who have severe injuries.” of the spinal cord as quadriplegics, tetraplegics, next year, pending FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval.”

This invention is made up of a computer chip that connects to small flexible wires. These are sewn directly into the brain using a kind of sewing machine, with the help of a specialized robot. The chip is responsible for capturing brain signals that are then translated into motor controls.

The company had already shown this system connected to a monkey. With it, it was possible to observe that the animal was capable of playing a game of Pong with just its mind. The device in the brain collected information about the neurons that fired as he played, making a prediction of the moves he would make.

“Basically, the monkey seemed normal, but he’s telepathically playing a video game, which I think is pretty profound,” Musk argued during the live stream.
