Why is the Facebook login button disappearing? • ENTER.CO

Surely you remember that to log in to various web pages it was possible to use the Facebook button to log in. Well, this reality is changing and this feature is disappearing from the web, but why?

The explanation for this lies in the statement made by Rakesh Soni, CEO of digital identity management firm LoginRadius. He explained that “People began to feel that their personal space was being violated.” Brands like Dell, Best But, Ford Motor, Pottery Barn, Nike, Patagonia, Match, and Amazon’s video streaming service Twitch have removed this feature.

This was unthinkable a few years ago, the Facebook button was all over the web. But now the reality is changing and more and more often users decide not to use it. Concerns about security, privacy, and data sharing are some of the reasons that come up when users are asked. The disappearance of this button is also an indicator of how Facebook’s influence is declining on the Internet.

Already during 2020, the business of this company fell apart when the change in Apple’s privacy policies occurred. This coupled with increased competition with short TikTok videos. As well as the reputational damage from the leak of a whistleblower who said that Facebook knew of the damage caused by many of its products.

Using the Facebook or social login button was considered very convenient because it saved users from having to re-register with a username and password. Dell is the latest company to remove it. Jen Felch, the company’s chief digital officer and chief information officer, said they made this decision based on analysis of the number of people who used their identity to log in. She believes that the preventive measures taken by users are due to the risks of account takeovers.
