But what is it exactly?
Simply put, a DLSS is a performance multiplier that uses artificial intelligence to improve the way frames are generated. In the case of Nvidia’s DLSS 3, it’s an AI technique that delivers exceptional image quality and up to 4x the performance of brute force rendering, along with fast gaming responsiveness.
How does it work?
Optical multi-frame generation generates entirely new frames, rather than just pixels, offering amazing performance improvements. New Optical Flow Accelerator built into NVIDIA architecture analyzes two sequential game images and calculates motion vector data for objects and items that appear in each frame but are not modeled by the game engine’s motion vectors traditional. This drastically reduces visual anomalies when the AI renders things like particles, reflections, shadows, and lighting.

How is this reflected in a game?
According to Nvidia, with this new technology it is possible to quadruple the frame rates compared to those GPUs that are not equipped with this technology. During its presentation, the company for example showed its DLSS technology being used in Cyberpunk 2077 and going from 22 fps in native 4K to 85 fps using DLSS 3.
Does it apply to all games?
No. DLSS must be supported by the game. At the time of its release, at least 35 games and applications support it, among which are: A Plague Tale: Requiem, Cyberpunk 2077, Unity, Unreal Engine 4 & 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator and Hogwarts Legacy.
