Abdel Bouhazama was the coach of Angers in France’s Ligue 1 until, in an attempt to defend one of his players from a sexual assault accusation, he made a foolish comment that ended up costing him his job.
According to information from ‘Ouest-France’, the left back of the French and international team for Algeria, Ilyes Chetti, will be requested by the French justice to clear up a complaint against him for an alleged sexual assault in a nightclub while the event was taking place. “We demand the resignation/removal of Abdel Bouhazama, immediately, without delay. We supporters are devastated by the seriousness of the words and we distance ourselves from the serious and shocking events that occurred last week. This charade must end,” they wrote on Twitter.

In the morning hours of this Tuesday, March 7, 2022, Angers SCO shared a statement on its social networks stating that by mutual agreement, Bouhazama would no longer be the team’s coach.
“Abdel Bouhazama ceases to be the coach of the professional team as of this Tuesday, March 7. This decision was made yesterday, by mutual agreement, between the management of the club and the coach.”reads the club’s statement on ‘Twitter’.
The 54-year-old strategist leaves the team in a difficult situation where Angers is listed as bottom of Ligue 1 and is 12 points away from relegation. Sexual assaults linked to the world of football have been on the agenda this season, since there are already more than three who have been accused and are being investigated in this regard.
