Volume 2 will ‘punch right in the heart’, says director

“Stranger Things” director and executive producer Shawn Levy continues to anticipate Volume 2 of Season 4, and stated that they’re ready to “punch you right in the heart.”

In a lengthy interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Shawn Levy promised a Season 4 Volume 2 “as emotional as it is cinematic”, and urged fans of the series not to be put off by the large length of the episodes.

While Volume 1 is made up of 7 episodes of considerable length, Volume 2 will only have two episodes, but Episode 8 will be 1 hour and 25 minutes long, while Episode 9, the final episode of the season, will be an incredible 2 hours and 30 minutes.

“There is a lot being written in regards to the runtimes of these episodes and the robust runtime of episode nine in particular. Having seen the final two episodes, they are as emotional as they are cinematic. Heck, they’re definitely a treat for the eyes, but they punch you in the heart,” commented the “Stranger Things” director.

Levy also talked about the episodes already released, discussing some mysteries revealed in the first part of the season. “One thing I love about the Duffers, who have very different personalities than I do, they are a different generation than I am, but where we always understand each other is, we do things for the public. We’re not here telling stories just for ourselves,” said the director.

He continued, “In a world where so many shows end poorly, I love that the Duffers got to episode seven of our penultimate season and said, ‘You know what? The answers are good. And now it’s time. It’s time to explain a lot of what’s going on,’” he continued.

“So I, for one, love that we were able to give our audience so much narrative satisfaction with these explanations. It recasts everything we know about Hawkins’ evil and the supernatural villains we face, and I don’t want to reveal too much about volume two and season five, but it certainly also serves as a springboard for what comes next.”

“Stranger Things” Season 4 Volume 2 arrives on Netflix on July 1.
