A strong controversy broke out on social networks after the 2023 Caribbean Series match between Venezuela and Panama when the cameras of the ESPN network captured two police officers receiving money from a fansomething that Internet users directly related to an act of corruption.
The clip was shared by the renowned broadcaster Marco Antonio Santos, better known as ‘DJ Marco 77’, with a message that read: “Are we surprised?
In the audiovisual that has already reached more than 250,000 reproductions and 600,000 views on Twitter, it can be seen how two officials of the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) apparently receive money from a man in a red jacket who was accompanied by a woman in the lower area of the stadium.
Although many Internet users took what was observed in the recording with humor, others associated it with a “corrupt” action.. However, the video shows the moment when the man gives them a series of instructions as if he were asking them to buy him something to drink or eat.
“It is to show in the Caribbean that we are already in carnival and they are waiters disguised as policemen”; Security is not there to run errands. There is a flaw there because for that there should be people and security for security, probably the official wanted to be kind”; “Showing part of our culture to the rest of the Caribbean”, were some of the reactions.
So far, the identity of the people who appear in this recording that caused strong controversy on social networks is unknown, the reason? It is necessary to remember that Venezuela is the most corrupt country in Latin America, according to data from Transparency International (TI).
The Venezuelan organization not only inaugurated a luxurious stadium, but at least 5,000 police officers were deployed for everything related to security and public order in this competition.
For the first time in the history of this tournament, eight teams will participate: Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, Curacao, Panama and Colombia, which won the last edition in Santo Domingo.
