The new recommendations regarding vaccines against covid-19 come into effect from that date March 1, 2023 and applies at the latest up to and including the February 29, 2024. Below you will find recommendations for different age groups, as well as people in risk groups and people with a weakened immune system.

18–49 years

If you are between 18 and 49 years old, the following recommendations apply:

  • No recommendation on top-up dose.
  • As of March 1, the recommendation for three doses of basic vaccination also ceases.
  • For example, if you live near an elderly person or people in a risk group, a dose is available until February 29, 2024. This applies regardless of the number of previous doses.
  • Time interval for vaccination: at least 9 months since the last dose.

Even in the future, basic vaccination with 3 doses will be available.

50–64 years

If you are between 50 and 64 years old, the following recommendations apply:

  • One dose during the period 1 March 2023–29 February 2024regardless of previous number of doses. This dose should primarily be given before the autumn and winter season 2023/24.
  • Time interval for vaccination: at least 9 months since the last dose.

You are also recommended to have a so-called basic vaccination consisting of three doses: primary vaccination (two doses) followed by a top-up dose after four months at the earliest, but preferably with a longer interval.

65–79 years and people in the risk group from 18 years of age

If you are between 65 and 79 years old – or are a person in a risk group who is 18 years or older – the following recommendations apply:

  • One dose during the period 1 March 2023–29 February 2024regardless of previous number of doses. This dose should primarily be given before the autumn and winter season 2023/24.
  • In addition, an additional dose of vaccine is available to be taken during the period 1 March 2023–29 February 2024.
  • Time interval for vaccination: at least 6 months since the last dose.

You are also recommended to have a so-called basic vaccination consisting of three doses: primary vaccination (two doses) followed by a booster dose after four months at the earliest.

80 years and older, as well as residents at SÄBO

If you are 80 or older or live in SÄBO (special accommodation for the elderly), the following recommendations apply:

  • Two doses during the period 1 March 2023–29 February 2024regardless of previous number of doses.
  • Time interval between the two doses: at least 6 months.

You are also recommended to have a basic vaccination consisting of three doses: primary vaccination (two doses) followed by a booster dose after four months at the earliest.

People with a weakened immune system

If you have a weakened immune system, the following recommendations apply:

  • Since you are expected to have a weaker immune system after a vaccination, you should be vaccinated according to a special schedule with more doses according to special prescription. You can read more about this at the Public Health Agency website.
