After almost two years out of the Octagon, this Saturday the president of the UFC, Dana White, announced the return of Conor McGregor on social networks. The double champion will train during the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” alongside lightweight Michael Chandler, whom he will face.
However, in the video where the decision was communicated, he does not specify the date or the place for the McGregor-Chandler fight, which will probably take place at 170 pounds.
The 31st season of “The Ultimate Fighter” will run from May 30 to August 15. It should be remembered that the Irish fighter, who trained in the series in 2015 against Urijah Faber, has not had any professional activity since he was injured during a fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
This duel will take place under a highly expected and desired scenario, since Chandler was very actively asking for a fight against McGregor for more than a year.
Recently, the two-time champion has been in the news on several occasions. First, due to the reopening of the case of alleged gender violence in July 2022 when he was celebrating his 34th birthday on his yacht in Ibiza and a woman ended up at the police station filing a complaint.
Then due to a car accident while taking a bicycle ride through his native Ireland and in which he almost lost his life, according to what he recounted in a series of videos that he later deleted from his social networks.
How does McGregor come to his fight with Chandler?
Despite having not competed for almost two years, the Irishman is a fighter with a lot of background in the Octagon. He was the first to hold two separate weight division titles in the UFC at the same time. Plus, he boasts the fastest knockout in a title fight. In 13 seconds against José Aldo for the featherweight belt in 2015.
The only negative aspect that works against him in recent years is that he has lost two fights in a row and three of the last four.
