“Triangle of Sadness” could win the Oscar for best picture

After being a success at the Guldbaggegala, Ruben Östlund’s film “Triangle of Sadness” has now been nominated for three Oscars, not least in the gala’s heaviest category: Best Film.

Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness” became the Guldbaggegala’s big winner as it won in a total of six categories, including “Best Film” and “Best Director”. Now the film has the chance to take home three Oscar statuettes, it says SVT News.

Could win the Oscar for Best Picture

“Triangle of Sadness” is nominated in the categories “Best Original Screenplay”, “Best Director”, and “Best Film”. However, it is not Östlund who would take home the award for the latter category, but the producer Erik Hemmendorff.

Hemmendorff tells Culture News that he initially had a somewhat blasé approach to the whole thing:

“I’ll be honest, at first we thought ‘Oscars, who cares’, but then we still watched and filmed, but it feels incredibly fun. I was just told that it has never happened that a Swedish film has been nominated in the three heavy categories,” he says.

Other films that are nominated in the “Best Film” category are “On the Western Front nothing new”, “Avatar: The Way of Water”, “The Banshees of Inisherin”, “Elvis”, “Everything everywhere all at once”, “The Fabelmans ”, “Tár”, “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Women talking”.
