Sonic games haven’t had the best track record in recent years. Sonic Frontiers came with a bang promising an adventure, plus the obligatory ‘Breath of the Wild’ comparison that every game with a half-open map should receive. However, after years there are huge expectations. Will this be the game that defines what the future of the franchise will look like? Will this be the title that will finally bring many back?
We at ENTER.CO have taken advantage of the latest batch of information to bring together in one article the key information you need to know about the new Sonic game.
When is Sonic Frontiers coming?
The game will be available from next November 8, 2022.
What consoles will it be available on?
The game is coming to PS4, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.
What is the game about?
In Sonic’s new adventure, he heads to the Starfall Islands in search of the Chaos Emeralds with Amy and Tails, when trouble strikes and everyone is sucked into a strange digital world called cyberspace. Sonic soon escapes and finds himself on a mysterious ancient island, where he must face sinister enemies and uncover the truth of the Starfall Islands as he searches for his lost friends.
Is it open world?
From what we have been able to see in the previews, it is a semi-open world. The previews seem to indicate that you will be able to walk the island to move through its map and that the levels and challenges will be available for the player to decide which ones they want to complete or face. That said, it also looks like a lot of its open world will be made up of these levels.
What about the combat?
The game features some of the classic Sonic game mechanics, using the character’s speed to attack the different enemies available. There are a few additions worth mentioning. Sonic will feature a skill tree system, so you can perfect your fighting style or adjust his abilities to the way you prefer to play.
There is also a new mechanic called Cyloop that creates a trail of light where it runs and allows enemies and objects to be waxed to deal damage or generate other effects.
