“Top Gun: Maverick” has been a huge hit since it hit theaters, and it may have been a great opening for the 1986 film to spawn yet another major Hollywood franchise.
Several franchises are successful around the world, and Paramount Pictures may have found its next one: “Top Gun”. From “Jurassic Park”, “Harry Potter”, “Fast and Furious”, “Star Wars”, to the Marvel and DC universes and even “Mission: Impossible”, also with Tom Cruise, Hollywood franchises dominate the last 50 years and studios are always looking to find these real gold mines.
“Top Gun: Maverick” landed little by little, took a while to happen, had problems because of the pandemic, but when it finally arrived, it came with everything and has been showing that, by pleasing critics and audiences, having characters that can still be explored and having their own style, is capable of carrying a franchise to the heights.
In addition to being a movie that can be seen by the whole family, the box office and critical success brings a nostalgic tone, full of comedy, action and romance, as we see Tom Cruise return to the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who now need taught a new group of graduates.
It is possible to start from “Maverick”, new adventures with jets with increasingly advanced technology, new programs, trainers, challenges, rivalries, in short: expand this universe and give it new ends, either through sequels, or through spin-offs, or even prequels.
Whether with a small or large participation of Tom Cruise’s character, or even without him, “Top Gun” has the potential to grow and gain new chapters after resuming this universe in the new film.
While none of this gets off the ground, “Top Gun: Maverick” is available in theaters.
