The day of this Monday has been marked by the information that ensures that the ex-winner of the Cy Young award, Trevor Bauer is about to sign a million-dollar contract with a team from Japan. According to information from ESPNsources close to the chain indicated that the pitcher would be finalizing a contract with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Nippon Professional Baseball for four million dollars plus incentives for a period of one year.
Plus, Bauer would still get paid for the final season of his $102 million contract with the Dodgers. The final year of that deal would be just over $22 million. If the agreement with the Japanese becomes official, it would mean a return to professional activity after almost two years of suspension and inactivity with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The 32-year-old pitcher last played in June 2021 and was later suspended due to an allegation of alleged sexual assault in San Diego by a woman. The sanction was initially 324 games, but in December 2022 it was reduced to 194.
Bauer was able to rejoin the Los Angeles team, but a month after the announcement, the franchise decided to release him. Now, the former Cy Young winner would join the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, a mid-table team in Japan that hasn’t won the local championship since 1998.
In the past, the veteran pitcher showed interest in coming to Japanese baseball and even wrote on his Twitter account that he was open to receiving offers. “I will consider offers from any MLB or NPB team,” he said at the time.
