Manchester United will face Wrexham, by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, in a friendly match to be held in San Diego, United States, according to reports from ESPN.
The match will be part of Manchester United’s friendly tour of the United States in July 2023, which will also include a match in Las Vegas.
Wrexham, meanwhile, is also in talks about a summer friendly with United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea.
A statement issued by Wrexham, which is second in the National League, read: “The club can confirm that our previously published plans to tour the United States during the preseason they are in an advanced stage, but they are not finalized yet.
“Full details of the games the club will be playing in and where will be released through the Club’s communication channels when confirmed.
Wrexham have gained popularity in recent months thanks to the purchase of Ryan Reynolds and the search to take the English team to the Premier League. Currently the club is in the fifth division of English football.
Manchester United have not toured the United States since 2018 with José Mourinho as manager and before COVID. SThey last faced Wrexham in an official FA Cup match in 1995, a match that ended in a 5-2 victory for United at Old Trafford.
