After various rumors surrounding Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez’s next fight, it was confirmed that the boxer will return to Mexico to defend his titles and he will do so in his native Jalisco, in Guadalajara. The news was announced by the governor of the city, Enrique Alfaro through a video broadcast on different social networks and in which he assured that the Aztec fighter was the greatest of all time.
The regional authority also informed that ‘Canelo’ will join the celebration that commemorates the fight for Federalism that Jalisco gave in 1823 and will participate in the acts for the 200 years of independence of the city.
“The greatest boxer in Mexico returns home to fight for Jalisco and celebrate with you his 200 years free and sovereign. Listen to this surprise and share it ”, he wrote on Twitter accompanying the audiovisual.
In a double video in which the boxer also participated, the governor stated that this announcement seeks to honor the ancestors. “This 2023 Jalisco celebrates 200 years free and sovereign, two centuries of a history of struggle written by women and men who gave direction to our nation. Today we want to honor our past through those who uphold the name of Jalisco in the present.”
For his part, Álvarez said he is prepared to celebrate with his people. “I am ready to return home and defend my titles in the place where I was born and where my story began, with the people who have always supported me.”
The day, venue and rival of the fight will be announced soon. However, the fight against John Ryder, current Interim Super Middleweight Champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), could take place at the Akron Stadium of Chivas de Guadalajara, according to information from ESPN.
