Emojis have become an essential part of communication via WhatsApp, text message, or any other instant messaging platform. If you want to say ‘I love you’ you can change it to a heart or if you want to say goodbye with emojis, just send a little hand waving. The truth is that emoticons on our cell phones are becoming more and more essential.
Unicode, the international standard in charge of supporting the entire set of emojis, is also in charge of selecting the new members that are added to the list every year. This time, the entity has announced the list of the new 21 emoticons that are selected to be part of version 15 of its character catalog. Within the list, the most prominent are the animals, as we see a donkey, a jellyfish and a moose appearing on the list.
The new season of emojis would be arriving at the end of the current year and the beginning of 2023, if we look at the calendar of emojis that are released annually. For one of these drawings to be part of the great set of characters, Unicode studies the needs that users have presented and the possible emoticons that are needed and that can be useful. Once they choose the new additions, they are announced to Android, iOS, computers and applications that usually exchange emojis so that they add them to their list. Among the applications are WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Instagram; each of them, like the operating systems, have a free hand to make small modifications to the emojis according to their policies and designs.

The emoji approval process generally consists of several phases until the final list is made. Then, for its part, Unicode compiles the list with the possible candidates, then refines the list with the finalists. Finally they end up adding a series of definitive emoticons. In this case, this is the list of finalists for the 2022/2023 period.
If you are a fan of emojis, you will have noticed that the new list is less extensive and varied than usual, perhaps we already have enough or Unicode has run out of ideas (cough, cough). The 21 applicants to enter the Emojis collection are:
- agitated face
- Colored hearts: pink, blue and gray.
- Hand pushing: from the left and from the right.
- I raised.
- Green peas.
- Hand fan.
- Hair comb.
- Khanda (religious symbol).
