The new Barbie movie will be a more ‘feminist’ film • ENTER.CO

A few days ago it was announced that Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie will be the ones to play Ken and Barbie (respectively) in the new multifaceted doll movie. Every time a new photograph appears with the two actors filming the film, social networks explode with emotion, and although we still know few details of what this film will be, we can get an idea from the images that are on the internet.

Although there is at least a year left for Warner Bros, the producer behind Barbie, to let us see the new facet of the blonde doll, fans do not stop making assumptions and generating expectations. And it is that Greta Gerwig, the director behind the live action of Barbie, has shown her intention to give women a more important position in everyday life. Little Women, Lady Bird and Women of the 21st Century are some of the director’s films that demonstrate this premise.

Regarding the Barbie script, we know that it was also written by Gerwig and her husband, Noah Baumbach, which, according to people close to her, is kept under ‘seven keys’. However, we know that the synopsis of the film is the same as that which was proposed from the beginning of the project in 2014: “the most famous doll in the world is expelled from Barbieland for not being perfect enough, so she embarks on an adventure in The real world”. In fact, the only thing that has changed several times since then is the protagonist; Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway were first discussed, however, it was Margot Robbie who got the role.

It is true that the two protagonists are the main attraction of the film, but the director argued that she hopes to leave behind the stereotypes for the role that each character will play. So, we will not see the typical gentleman who saves the lady from everyday dangers, but it will be Barbie who bravely takes risks to fight for her ideals.

In fact, as reported in Fayer Wayer, it will be the blonde girl who ‘rescue’ Ken. She will even be the one who defends herself from those who try to intimidate or bully her, as she was shown in one of the public leaked scenes. In it we see Barbie hitting a man who spanks her, while Ken screams at the blonde’s blow to the abuser.
