“The Boys” premiered the first three episodes of its third season this Friday (3) and in less than 24 hours it reached a maximum rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critically acclaimed, the season was one of the most anticipated by fans as it promised the debut of Jensen Ackles, known for the series “Supernatural”, as Soldier Boy.
In an interview with collidershow creator Eric Kripke, who is also the mind behind the comics, revealed when and why he chose the actor to play the character.
“We were just talking, we talked maybe twice a year. He was telling me he was free of Supernatural and he was starting to look around, and I was telling him, ‘I’m having a hard time casting this role,'” of a WWII veteran character.
“We were going for this archetype, [tipo] John Wayne or Robert Mitchum. So it didn’t occur to me to think about Jensen because he plays younger… until I was on the phone with him and I was like, ‘Wait a minute, are you interested in this role? May I send you this scene?’”
Also according to the screenwriter, despite the good conversation and Ackles having accepted the invitation, it was not an easy process for them, since there were other people in the test queue. That is, the famous Dean Winchester had to “fight” for the role. “Nothing comes easy. There were a lot of producers and execs who didn’t know him. So he had to really follow the rhythm.”
Kripke and Ackles had previously worked together on “Supernatural”, where the professional served as a screenwriter on a few episodes. So, knowing the actor from ‘other carnivals’, he took the opportunity to give his private opinion on Ackles’ work – and he couldn’t contain his praise.
“The thing I always say about Jensen is his really impressive versatility after having put him in every imaginable scene over the time we’ve worked together. He can do everything. He can be funny. He can be scary, he can be emotional, he can be a credible action star. He can do all things, and that’s a pretty rare package.”
“I would say having Jensen as a new character – but one that I was already familiar with in terms of his capabilities and, as I say, [com] the crayons they already had in their box – made it all easier, in a weird way. It was like a homecoming, like a family reunion to just write something that I knew he could do.”
Following the strategy of other platforms, Amazon streaming did not release the show’s episodes all at once. With that in mind, the Digital Look separated in another publication the exact dates for the arrival of each episode of “The Boys” on Prime Video. check here.
