That’s how often the Swedes have sex

In the 2022 Health Barometer, Swedes have had to answer how sexually active they are and how active they think others are. It now turns out that the majority imagine that others have more sex than they actually have.

As many men as women, one in five, state that they are not sexually active. This is shown by Life’s survey, the Health Barometer 2022. Those who are least sexually active belong to the 18-30 or 51-64 age group, with 23 percent each.

That’s how often most people have sex

Two percent of Swedes have sex daily, which is in line with the general perception. On the other hand, a quarter believe that other people have sexual intercourse several times a week. The results show that this is only consistent with 13 percent of the respondents’ habits. The most common is to have sex a couple of times a month.

Four health benefits of having sex

Better sleep

When you have sex, a large amount of oxytocin is released – a substance that helps the body deal with stress, lowers the heart rate and makes you sleep better.

Pain relief

The substance oxytocin also increases the levels of the feel-good hormones endorphins, which act as pain relievers. Oxytocin can also lower blood pressure, which can help with headaches, for example.

Strengthens the immune system

Sex has been shown to give higher levels of immunoglobulin A, an antibody that protects the body against bacteria and viruses in, for example, the respiratory tract. Several studies also point out that sex can strengthen the heart and also reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

Make yourself prettier

During sex, blood circulation increases, which contributes to increasing the production of the protein collagen. Collagen helps the skin maintain its elasticity and can also help the hair roots produce stronger strands.
