A recent survey applied in the US showed interesting results. TikTok, despite its high popularity, fails to dethrone YouTube in the preference of young people.
Facebook was the worst off because its preference numbers among young people between 13 and 17 years old dropped to 32% preference. A drop of 71% compared to the previous measurement of 2014-15. YouTube continues to be the leader because 95% of those surveyed say they use it regularly. Behind comes TikTok with 67% popularity and then there are Instagram and Snapchat.

Despite the change in landscape, as well as the rise of TikTok and the fall of Facebook, it is clear that more and more teenagers are using Instagram and Snapchat. While Twitter and Tumblr decreases in the proportion of teenagers. A different case from the survey from 5 years ago is that two of the platforms that the survey tracked, Vine and Google+, no longer exist in this version.
When doing the analysis regarding gender, men have a greater preference for YouTube, Twitch and Reddit. While women are more inclined to TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat. Black and Hispanic teens use TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp more than white teens. When explored regarding the amount of connection time, it was found that the five platforms with the most connections are: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook. 35% of those surveyed said they use at least one of them almost constantly.
When teens were asked about the difficulty of leaving social media, 54% said it would be difficult to do so. In fact, the vast majority of teens, 95%, have access to devices like smartphones and 80% have access to video game consoles.
