One of the biggest trends on TikTok right now is scalp care, i.e. taking care of your scalp. We take a look at the trend, which is said to be the key to healthier and thicker hair.
One of the year’s biggest beauty trends on TikTok
So-called scalp care, in other words taking care of your scalp, has recently become increasingly talked about on TikTok. Those who advocate this believe that a healthy scalp can make a fantastic difference to the appearance and health of the hair.
The trend is not only noticeable on social media, but also on the sale of scalp products. According to Klarna, scalp scrub and scalp oil have increased by 283% and 199% respectively in the first four months of the year compared to the same period in 2019.
“We can see a clear line between the increased sales of scalp products and the trends seen in social media and especially on Tiktok right now,” says Klarna’s Fashion Director Emilia de Poret and continues:
“The trend is interesting but not entirely unexpected. Techniques such as applying oil to the scalp are nothing new and have roots in many different cultures, including Ayurveda. Until now, however, Western beauty has largely ignored the scalp and instead focused on treating and caring for the hair. But with the growing interest in skin care in general, one can conclude that we think the scalp should get more love.”
