Sweden’s used Christmas gift 2022 – Metro Mode

Climate crisis, sky-high inflation and soaring electricity prices. There have never been more reasons to choose used instead of new. At the same time, the percentage of Swedes who can imagine getting a used Christmas present has completely exploded and increased by 20 percentage points in just one year. Now 7 out of 10 Swedes are positive about getting a used Christmas present. This is according to a survey conducted by Kantar Sifo on behalf of Blocket. This year’s used Christmas gift 2022 is therefore “a used Christmas gift” – regardless of which gift you choose to buy.

This year’s Christmas shopping is expected to turn over SEK 12 billion and an average Christmas celebration in our part of the world can cause up to 650 kilos of carbon dioxide emissions. Christmas presents are a big culprit here, and running around shops and buying new ones is neither good for the wallet nor the environment. But this year, the Swedes have seriously taken the idea of used Christmas presents to heart.

According to a survey conducted by Kantar Sifo on behalf of Blocket, 7 out of 10 Swedes (73 percent) are positive about receiving a used Christmas present. That is a massive increase compared to last year when only 56 percent were positive.

– It’s great fun that so many people are positive about used Christmas presents and we’ve never seen such a big increase from one year to the next. Buying used is cheaper, more personal and better for the environment and I am so happy to see that so many more people have now opened their eyes to it, says Ebba Rosencrantz, press officer at Blocket.
Even when it comes to giving away used Christmas presents, the tone is overwhelmingly positive. 6 out of 10 Swedes (62 percent) would consider giving away a used Christmas present. The corresponding figure last year was 56 percent.
– It’s time to let go of old notions that you can’t give used things. The vast majority are positive about getting a used Christmas present, and the reasons to shop used have never been greater than this Christmas, says Ebba Rosencrantz.
