The ocean is a rather strange place, despite the fact that it occupies more than two thirds of our planet.
They are always discovering new and strange species, and on top of that, we still don’t understand everything that we do know. Like these kinds of things that appear out of the water and leave us all in awe.
People have been seeing a lot of these things on the beaches lately. But what exactly are they?
They might look like something some animal has left behind…

But no, they are not the beginning of an alien invasion…
They are actually skate shark egg sacs, discarded after they hatch.
While many sharks give birth to live young, some species lay eggs that later hatch.
Shark eggs take around 7 to 10 months to hatch.
These things are also eggshells – but there’s a twist (no pun intended).
Actually, they are the egg cases of a sleepyhead shark. The spiral ties stay on the rocks or crevices, keeping the egg relatively protected and safe.
This is what appears when they finally hatch!
Nature never ceases to amaze me. Every time I think I’ve got it figured out, something new and crazy like this pops up and scrambles my mind all over again. Amazing!
