Recently, Apple announced its new family of cell phones, the iPhone 14 with: a classic model, the iPhone 14 Plus, Pro and Pro Max. Although the last two devices are the ones that present the biggest (and best) changes, compared to the iPhone 13, the two most basic models have a few improvements that also differ from the predecessor, the iPhone 13. Although in Colombia it will not be able to arrive (for now) the iPhone 14 and its variants to Colombia due to 5G restrictions, there are those who wonder if it is worth investing a few more pesos for the iPhone 14 or leaning towards the iPhone 13. We tell you what are the differences and similarities of both models.

The first thing you should keep in mind is that we will make the comparison between the two basic models: the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14. Yes, we already know what you are asking yourself, are there differences in terms of the physical design between both cell phones? The answer is short: no. We see the same camera module that houses two sensors, straight edges, and a 6.1-inch screen. The main difference physically is its thickness, which went from 7.65 mm in the previous model to 7.8 mm for the iPhone 14.

As for the materials, Apple kept the same for the new iPhone range. The mineral glass is maintained both on the front and the back and aluminum on its edges. For its part, the two main lenses are protected with synthetic sapphire. Now let’s look at the features in terms of performance. The first thing we must mention is that the chip that gives life to both models is the same: the A15 Bionic; however, there is a difference in terms of power, since the iPhone 13 GPU has 4 cores, while the iPhone 14 GPU comes with 5 cores. The same thing happens in the RAM memory, which is 4GB for the 13 model and 6GB for the iPhone 14 RAM. As for the internal memory, we find the three traditional versions in both models: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

When it comes to cameras, the sensors are the same: a 12MP main lens, a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 12MP front sensor. We see the changes in terms of cameras in terms of aperture, which went from f / 1.6 for the iPhone 13 to f / 1.5 for the iPhone 14, which translates into better brightness for photographs. As for the front camera, it has an aperture of f / 2.2 for the iPhone 13, while the iPhone 14 has an aperture of 1.9, which also comes with autofocus.

As for autonomy, the company promises that the iPhone 14 can have 20 hours of continuous video playback, while the iPhone 13 only reached 19 hours (brave increase). To achieve this autonomy, both phones have the same type of charger: a 20-watt fast cable charge, a 15-watt Magsafe (wireless) charger and a 7.5-watt Qi charger. With the main 20-watt charger (not included in the box), the company promises a 50% charge in 30 minutes.

In conclusion, the differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14 are minimal, at least we do not see any in physical terms. In terms of performance, we see those small updates that, in my personal opinion, are not worth enough to invest a good amount of money for the iPhone 14, unless you do it for the new color of the model: purple.
