Basic Instinct became Sharon Stone’s big break, but her participation came with a price: she lost custody of her son after the film. “It broke my heart,” she says in the podcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi.
That was when Sharon Stone was a guest on the podcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi as she shared that she lost custody of her son due to her iconic role in the film Basic Instinct:
“I lost custody of my child. When the judge asked my child – my little boy, ‘Do you know that your mother makes sex films?’ so it was an abuse of the system, that the fact that I made that film affected the perception of how I was as a parent,” she said, continuing:
“People walk around without clothes on regular TV, and you saw me naked for maybe a sixteenth of a second – and I lost custody of my child /…/ it broke my heart.”
Cheated by the producers
The scene from the 90s film that cost Stone custody of her son is well-known, not least because it shows the actress’ private parts – but when the scene was filmed, she was assured that these would not appear in the film.
In an interview with Vanity Fair tells Stone what happened when she found out the truth about the scene:
“After we recorded Basic Instinct I was summoned to see it. Not one-on-one with the director, as one would expect, given the situation, but with a room full of agents and lawyers, most of whom had nothing to do with the project,” she says, continuing:
“That’s how I got to see the clip with my vagina for the first time, long after I was told, ‘We can’t see anything – you just need to take off your panties, because the white reflects the light, so we see you’re wearing panties on you’. Yes, there have been many opinions on this, but since it’s my vagina, let me just say: the other opinions are bullshit.”
