Jeff Schwartz, Russell Westbrook’s agent, confirmed to ESPN that his client will join the ranks of the Los Angeles Clippers. According to the information, the deal will be finalized after Westbrook and the Utah Jazz complete the purchase of the remaining $47 million of the debt.

The base was of interest to teams like the Chicago Bills, Washington Wizards and Miami Heat. However, the Clippers’ interest came to fruition when several players and members of the franchise such as coach Tyronn Lue and president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank began talks with the nine-time All-Star, according to sources informed ESPN.

Apparently, in the talks it was discussed what would be the role and importance of Westbrook in the Clippers and the way of playing. One of the reasons why the offer ended up convincing was because of the tangible opportunity to not only stay in Los Angeles, but compete for a championship.

In this way, the 34-year-old player will join the sideboard of Los Clippers to fight for the NBA ring with his former teammate Paul George. Remember, Russell was traded by the Lakers in a 2027 first-round pick to Utah in a three-way deal.

Westbrook then decided to take some time off to evaluate his chances after appearing as the sixth man for the Lakers where he averaged 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 28.7 minutes per game.

The base was also criticized during his journey as a teammate of LeBron James for not being precise in making decisions in the last minutes of the games. His tendency to make the wrong choice clearly hurt the team.

In this campaign, the Lakers played six games in which they did not have Westbrook for the last five minutes and with a difference in the score of 5 points or less. The record was five wins and one loss.
