The Pole Marcin Oleksy, who has amputated his left leg, is one of the three finalists for the Puskas 202 award2, with which FIFA recognizes the best goal of the year, along with the Brazilian Richarlison with his great goal in the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the French Dimitri Payet in the Conference League in 2022.

Oleksy scored on November 6 one of the goals of the year at the end with a spectacular scissors in the match of the Polish League of Amputees between Warta Poznan, a group in which Oleksy is a memberand the Stal Rzeszow.

“My teammate Dawid -Novak- made the pass. When I saw him approach the ball, I knew he was coming towards me. I connected very cleanly. It was pure. When I hit him, I followed the ball with my eyes and saw how it entered the top corner. I always wanted to score a nice goal. After the goal, I felt very proud. I stood up, puffed out my chest. I was so, so happy,” Oleksy said.

The Polish player will compete for the Puskas award with the Brazilian Richarlison, who is among the candidates thanks to the spectacular volley goal that he signed against Serbia in the last World Cup in Qatar and that already earned the Brazilian the goal of the tournament award for the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Richarlison got the score in the first match of the group stage in Brazil and ended up being the best in the World Cup. It is the first time that Tottenham’s Brazilian striker has been nominated in this category.

Complete the list of finalists the French player from Olympique de Marseille Dimitri Payet, thanks to the sensational goal from outside the area which he achieved last April in the quarterfinal match of the Conference League between the French team and PAOK from Greek Thessaloniki.

After a corner kick directed at the edge of the area, Payet struck with his first-class right foot and nailed it to the top corner for what was considered the best goal of the tournament and is now fighting for the goal of the year.

The winner of the Puskas prize will be known during The Best gala to be held on February 27 in Paris. Among the players who are nominated for The Best are Karim Benzema, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.
