On a day of mourning for Real Madrid for the death of its honorary president, Amancio Amaro, The Spaniards drew oil from a heart-stopping match that they had to come back from minute four and which ended up leading by a score of 5-2 at the mythical Anfield stadium against Liverpool.

The usual suffering in the Champions League for the defending champions began in the fourth minute with a goal from the Uruguayan Darwin Núñez’s heel and was postponed after a rude error by Thibaut Courtois inside the area that served for Mohamed Salah to score 2-0.

The pride of the madridistas came to the fore once again and as is customary in their DNA, they came from behind and overcame adversity. It all started with a play that Vinicius Jr. invented on the left when he entered the area, cut to the right and hit a whiplash that entered the far post of Alisson Becker’s goal.

Precisely the Brazilian goalkeeper would also become a villain like Courtois for serving Madrid’s number 20 tie on a silver platter after a long ball that he controlled inside the area, and in an attempt to clear it crashed into Vini’s humanity. The ball slipped into the networks of the locals.

Those led by Carlo Ancelotti came out into the second half with a knife between their teeth and achieved a goal from the dressing room thanks to a header from Eder Militao after a precise free kick from Modric.

Ten minutes later, at 57′, the goddess of luck smiled at the Spanish team again after Karim Benzema received a ball from Rodrygo on the edge of the area and the trajectory of the shot changed drastically after crashing into a Liverpool defender. This confused Alisson that he was unable to prevent the fourth touchdown.

At minute 67, the fourteen-time champions of the Champions League began an offensive transition in which they seized those led by Jürgen Klopp from a poor position and this led to the fifth goal for White after an assist from Vinicius Jr. and an excellent definition from Benzema.

Real Madrid struck first in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 and became the first team in European Cup history to score five goals at Anfield. The return will be played on March 15 at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
