The new Poças wine is marked by an intense and complex aroma, produced with grape varieties entirely from old vines.
Poças has just presented “Símbolo 2017”, a new vintage of this iconic
wine that integrates the portfolio of the company founded in 1918.
It is a DOC Douro wine, which seeks to materialize the philosophy associated with its name: to be a “symbol” of its origin.
Produced with the best grapes from Quinta de Santa Bárbara, located in Ervedosa do Douro (Cima Corgo), and vinified at Quinta das Quartas, located in Régua, this reference of the Port Wine and DOC Douro producer has a deep ruby tone and an intense and complex aroma, with hints of spices and jammed fruit.
On the palate it is rich, structured, and presents a perfect balance with wood, as well as notes of spices and ripe fruit, in a long and persistent finish.
“Symbol 2017 was produced only with grape varieties from old vines, aged 40 to 60 years, and the grapes used for its production were selected and harvested by hand. For a perfect result, this wine should be served at around 18oC, and it is recommended to accompany all types of meat, especially roast kid, aged meat or game meat, and a wide variety of cheeses”, explains André Pimentel Barbosa, oenologist from Poças.
This red wine, which went through a vinification process with fermentation at controlled temperature – with pumping over and prolonged maceration -, aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels “Allier”, with 300 liters of capacity, and also had an aging in bottle , for 12 months.
“The new harvest of this wine is the result of consistent and persistent work that Poças has been developing with still wines. We want to continue producing complex and high quality wines, inspired by the Douro terroir, always with an eye on the future, reconciling knowledge and tradition with younger and more modern proposals”, says the CEO of Poças, Pedro Poças Pintão.
Symbol 2017, with an MSRP of 50 euros (75cl), is on sale in wineries and specialized stores across the country, in the Poças online store – where you can buy directly from the producer -, and also in the physical store at Poças Visitor Centre, in Vila Nova de Gaia, which is currently open from Tuesday to Sunday, between 10 am and 5 pm.
