Brentford player Ivan Toney pleaded guilty in FA betting rules breach inquiry (Football Association of England) after being involved in 262 illegal bets.
The investigations against the striker began in November, although during the investigation he continued to play with the club in the 2022-2023 season.
Kieran Trippier, Daniel Sturridge, Joey Barton, Martin Demichelis and Andros Townsend they are players who were also involved in betting cases, an illegal issue in English football. It is still unknown how long the English footballer could be sanctioned until they determine the period in which he was involved in the bets.
In 2019, Kieran Trippier leaked that he would leave Tottenham Hotspur for Atlético de Madrid for which he bet his transfer in the betting houses and pleaded guilty for which he was fined a 10-week suspension and had to cancel a payment of $84 thousand dollars.
Joey Barton has been one of the most serious cases in the Premier League by being involved with 260 bets in 2017 qIt cost him a year and a half suspension for which the player decided to retire at age 35 and declare that he had a serious problem.
“I have fought against gambling addiction and I have provided the FA with a medical report on my problem,” was what the former player declared after leaving the fields.
Ivan Toney has been Brentford’s top scorer so far in the Premier League. The English striker has 14 goals in 21 games. Toney is third in the goalscoring lead behind Harry Kane with 18 goals and Erling Haaland with 27 goals.
The recently promoted Brentford is in the ninth position of the table of classification with 35 units, 5 points from the fight for the European places and with a wide difference to avoid relegation, in a successful season for “the bees”.
