HBO Max announced on Wednesday that “Our Flag Means Death” has been renewed for a second season. The comedy series starring Taika Waititi and Rhys Darby tells the story of Stede Bonnet, a wealthy man who abandons his family to become a pirate.
Created by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Is Death” is not just about pirate jokes, the series also has a good dose of romance and emotion, as well as addressing topics such as toxic masculinity and LGBTQIA+ representation.
“We are delighted to bring this truly unique series back! We congratulate David [Jenkins]Taika, Rhys and the entire talented cast and crew, and we thank the show’s fans for embracing it wholeheartedly,” said HBO Max Head of Original Content Sarah Aubrey, as reported by collider.
In addition to the aforementioned names, the show also features Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, Guz Khan, David Fane, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutt, Nat Faxon , Fred Armisen and Leslie Jones.
“We felt the show was special while we were making it, but the fans’ open-armed embrace of the Revenge denizens makes the arrival of a second season even sweeter. Thanks to our team at HBO Max, our executive producers, and our enthusiastic audience for making another trip to this world possible,” added Jenkins.
The first season of “Our Banner Is Death” premiered March 3 on HBO Max, and despite being renewed for a second season, the sequel has yet to receive a release window.
