A total of 1,543 data scientists graduated through the MinTIC Data Science program. In this way, 3,838 Colombians have been certified in this discipline in the last 4 years. But what does a data scientist do?
This area of knowledge began to emerge strongly with the rise of the technology industry. It is used to capture, store, process and represent data. This information is used with precision for decision making and solving problems of various kinds. The MinTIC program is aimed at undergraduate students and also at all types of professionals who wish to expand their knowledge in this area. Digital talent is in high demand, with around 67% of companies hiring or expanding their data analytics teams, according to a report from Quant Hub. The ICT Minister, Carmen Ligia Valderrama Rojas, said that with these types of programs they are contributing to the digital transformation of the country. At the same time, she revealed that they seek to promote the contribution of qualified labor for companies.

The training of the students was focused on data science applied to artificial intelligence and to achieve this the MinTIC had several allies. In addition to several institutions of higher education such as the EAFIT University, the University of the North, the University of Cartagena, the University of Cauca, the University of Quindío, the Colombian School of Engineering Julio Garavito, the University of Córdoba, the Externado University of Colombia and the University of La Sabana. The ministerial commitment is to train more Colombians in this type of skills. This allows us to advance in the digital transformation and reduce the digital talent gap in Colombia.
