In the press conference after Xolos de Tijuana’s defeat against Club América at the Azteca Stadium, Miguel ‘El Piojo’ Herrera referred to the loud whistle of which he was the victim of the Azulcrema fans.

The coach assured that he understands the whistles, expressed his affection for the fans of the Coapa team and concluded by assuring that he only thinks of his current team. “I don’t want them to applaud me, I want the Xolos (fans) to do it. They do their part, there will always be affection and respect for the fans of America. Today I only think of Xolos, they do their job”, he expressed.

Despite his past with the Eagles, several videos of the booing of Herrera went viral on social networks last Sunday night at the Azteca Stadium. The reception from the cream-blue fans was not the warmest and it was evident when the voice of the stadium announced his name and once ‘El Piojo’ jumped onto the field to take his place on the bench.

It is not the first time that the veteran DT is booed by the fans of America. When he directed the UANL Tigers and visited the Azteca Stadium, he too received hostility.

The origin of all this is centered on the way in which he left the institution when he was eliminated by Chivas de Guadalajara in the quarterfinals of Guard1anes 2020 and in the Concachampions by Los Angeles FC of the MLS. Also for his most recent statements in which he underestimates or belittles the Eagles, according to the interpretation of several bluecrema fans.

After passing through Tigres and almost reaching the Mexican team, Herrera ended up signing with Xolos and assured that he had little room to work. “We must first say that we are going game by game, we have a double day, I arrived on Friday to watch the game, to speak with the board, on Saturday I present myself, we recover, we play Wednesday, Sunday, there is little time left”, he specified at a press conference.

The Xolos finished the match with one less player and could not avoid the 2-1 defeat against the team led by Fernando Ortiz.
