The Mexican selectionwhich will have a base of major league players commanded by the pitcher Julio Urías aspires to reach the first final in its history in the 2023 edition of the World Baseball Classic.

Arozarena, a Mexican national, was American League Rookie of the Year for the 2021 season of the MLB and is a fundamental piece in the batting order of the Rays.
Tellez, who hit 35 home runs last season with the Brewers, seventh most among all Major Leaguers.
In addition to these names, Mexico, which does not have a budget, will have at its disposal Jose UrquidyWorld Series champion pitcher with the Houston Astrosand Joey Meneses, one of the figures in the final part of the campaign with the Washington Nationals.
Gil’s challenge will be to make the players work as a team and show that he is a reliable coach, so as not to repeat his first experience in charge of Mexico, when in The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games left the team in last place in their group and without winning a single match.
The 2023 will be the fifth participation of Mexico in a World Classictournament in which his best result was a sixth place in 2006.
The Mexicans add a record in all their participations in seven wins and 11 losses; the last two editions, 2013 and 2017, were his worst performances with only one win each and eliminated in the first round.
This year, Mexico is part of group Cwhich will be played at Chase Field in Arizona, along with Colombia, United States, Great Britain and Canada.
The debut of the Mexicans will be this Saturday March 11 against Colombiaduel in which Urías has been announced as the starting pitcher.
