Mexico does not have a coach but it does have an assistant: Jaime Lozano will be on the coaching staff, according to TUDN

The days go by and It is not yet known who will direct the Mexican National Team for the 2026 World Cup processbut what can be sure is who will occupy the position of assistant coach: the former player Jaime ‘Jimmy’ Lozano.

According to reports of TUDNLozano received the go-ahead from the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) for him to be the assistant to the person who sits on the bench of El Trieither Miguel ‘Piojo’ Herrera, Guillermo Almada or the desired Marcelo Bielsa.

The journalist Ibrán Araige announced that in the interviews that the Federation had with Herrera and Almada, both were informed that Jimmy Lozano would be their second in command if they were elected to the position; both agreed and highlighted the knowledge and potential of the retired 44-year-old player.

Likewise, the new director of National Teams, Rodrigo Ares de Parga, fully agrees with the decision and would already have direct communication with Lozano.

Jaime Lozano is not improvised as a coachAlthough his career has been short, he has experience in command of clubs and minor teams in Mexico on his resume. He made his debut in 2017 with the Gallos Blancos de Querétaro, then from 2018 to 2021 he directed the Under-23 team in Mexico and was recently fired from the Rayos del Necaxa after failing to meet the objectives set by the board.
