In United States There is great expectation for the possible arrival of Lionel Messi to country football. And it is that in the last days the rumors have grown about an interest of the Miami Inter for signing him, something that the league welcomes, due to the prestige that this would entail for the MLS.
In an interview with The Athletic, the commissioner of the league, Don Garberhe could not hide his joy at being faced with the possibility that the world champion could come to football in the country, although he clarified that nothing has been confirmed, because so far there are only rumors.
“You are dealing with perhaps the most special player in the history of the game. So when there are rumors that he’s linked to Miami, that’s great. And if it could happen, it would be wonderful for MLS, it would be great for Messi and his family, and like everything with us, we try to take advantage of every opportunity. I can’t give more details than that because we don’t have them,” he explained.
In case these rumors turned into real negotiations, and because the league would be in favor of it, Garber added that the organization would be willing to intervene and work together with Inter Miami to reach a favorable agreement for the star. in such a way that he and his family are convinced that they will be happy on American soil.
“Teams have the flexibility to do unique things. MLS is a single entity. If you are selling something that is owned by the collective, the collective has to approve it. So whatever Jorge (Mas, the owner of Inter Miami) decides, with the help (of MLS executive vice president Todd Durbin) to structure something, if we get the chance to do it, it will be original.”, he narrowed.
“Because as everyone knows what is happening in international football today, with (Cristiano) Ronaldo earning 100 million… the transfer market is exploding in unimaginable ways. We are going to have to structure a settlement that will compensate him in the way he and his family expect. What’s that? Honestly, we don’t know today, ”she concluded.
It is worth remembering that Lionel Messi will conclude his current contract with the Paris Saint-Germain this year, therefore, in case of not renewing it, you will be able to negotiate with the club of your choice.
