Liverpool add another failure in the 2022-2023 season and now they were left out of the FA Cup after losing to Brighton 2-1 and now run out of chances of winning any title so far this season.
With a great goal from the Japanese Kaoru Mitoma, in added time, with no chance of reaction, Brighton achieved a 2-1 victory that takes him to the round of 16 of the FA Cup against Liverpool, current champion.
It was one more punishment for the ‘reds’ in a gray season, with the Champions League duel against Real Madrid in sight. Resigned from success in the Premier, Jurgen Klopp’s team leaves with more pain than glory from the Cup.
The champion never gave the feeling of having the game under control and was punished at the last minute, with a great resolution from Mitoma, who masterfully finished off a cross from the left by Ecuadorian Pervis Estupiñán. The Japanese, the best player in the game, lowered the ball, raised it and, as the ball was in the air, signed an impossible shot for Alisson.
Not even when they took advantage after half an hour did Liverpool give a feeling of superiority. It was an isolated action in an open clash. A good run from Egypt’s Mohamed Salah down the right ended with a free pass from Harvey Elliott, who had no trouble getting past goalkeeper Jason Steele on his way out.
Liverpool went from winning nearly four trophies last season to going without a trophy the following season. This year they lost in the League Cup, the FA Cupare in 9th place in the Premier League, far from the top positions and will face Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League.
