Lady Gaga could be the next Harley Queen in Joker 2 • ENTER.CO

Only last week we had news about the status of Joker 2. The sequel to the film is in production with the return of Todd Phillips as its director. Less than seven days have passed and it already seems that we have a new face in the film: the singer and actress Lady Gaga, who would play Harley Queen in the sequel.

Why is Warner after Gaga specifically? Well, apparently Joker 2 is a musical.

In the hands of another direct this proposal would sound preposterous. But Phillips seems to have a special sensibility when it comes to turning DC characters into works of art. It is worth mentioning that, although the original report from The Hollywood Reporter ensures that Gaga is the first option, Deadline expands the news by ensuring that for now Joker 2 is only in early talks to sign Gaga for the film.

The reports also confirm our theories about the title. Although Joker 2 is easier to say, the sequel’s official (and temporary) title is Joker: Folie À Deux. The closest definition of the term he uses as a surname is “the presence of the same or the same delusions in two or more people.” This definition was what led many to think that the story would introduce us to Harley Queen, being the most famous accomplice of the joker in comics.

Of course, the question now is how Joker 2 will transform the character of Queen (with or without Lady Gaga). The character’s history, origins, and motivations have changed throughout the story. Some elements are usually maintained, such as that she was the Joker’s psychiatrist in Arkham, where she falls in love with him. Other things have changed, mainly her relationship with ‘Pudding’. More modern portrayals often begin with Queen walking away from her toxic relationship or serving as an antagonist to the crime clown in full. This, in turn, has allowed Queen to serve more as an occasional anti-hero/villain.
