Kylian Mbappé equaled Edinson Cavani’s record and gets one goal away from being the top scorer in PSG history

Kylian Mbappé against Olympique Marseille.

At just 24 years old, Kylian Mbappé equaled this Sunday the legendary Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani as the top scorer in the history of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and is only one goal away from beating the South American. In the classic against Olympique Marseille, the Frenchman was able to reach 200 goals thanks to two assists from Lionel Messi that he ended up converting in his team’s 3-0 victory.

Cavani reached double hundred goals in 301 games that he played from 2013 to 2020 when he was transferred to Manchester United. What took the Uruguayan seven years has cost Mbappé only five.

In 246 games ‘Donatello’ was able to equal this scoring record with an average of 0.81 goals per game, while the Uruguayan had 0.66. The forward arrived at the Parisian team in 2018 from Monaco for a figure of 180 million euros.

This has not been the only record of ‘El Matador’ pulverized by the world champion with France in 2018, since in October 2022 he also became PSG’s top scorer in the UEFA Champions League, surpassing 30 goals by the South American. He currently has 40 goals in 60 games in this competition.

This season Mbappé has scored 29 goals in Ligue 1, a competition in which he has been top scorer in the last four editions. 28 Goals (21/22), 27 Goals (20/21), 18 goals (19/20) and 33 Goals (18/19).
