Mexico defeated the United States 3-1 in the final of the Concacaf U-17 World Cup in which several players stood out. One of them is Keyrol Figueroa, the young man who preferred to represent the United States instead of Honduras.
The 17-year-old plays in the youth ranks of Liverpool in the Premier League and recently revealed that he chose to represent the United States team and not that of Honduras, where his father, former midfielder Maynor Figueroa, was considered a figure, in addition to serving as captain on several occasions.
“I’m happy to be in this team because I wouldn’t be happy to play against this team, to be honest.. I believe in each one of them, each player that our coaches bring in is a talent, a different talent, a different piece of the puzzle. He couldn’t be more proud. I am happy to be on his side, ”Keyrol commented in an interview during the tournament.
In the Honduran Football Federation they hope that Figueroa will change his mind and choose to represent the national team at the senior level when he reaches 18 years of age and play like his father did.
“Fenafuth continues to maintain a close relationship with the man who was captain of the Honduran National Team in the last two World Cups we have attended. The best wishes are always for Keyrol so that he continues to succeed in his club. We trust that in the future he decides to play for the Honduran National Team just like his father did” confessed Edwin Bánegas, director of Communications for the Honduran Football Federation.
Figueroa scored 7 goals in the Concacaf tournament and helped the United States qualify for the U-17 World Cup where he will be one of the stars of the tournament and choose his future in the United States team.
