The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, reiterated that the Barcelona entity is “innocent” of the accusations that are poured on the Negreira case and added, after Real Madrid’s reaction, that Barça is the victim “of a campaign against their honor in which everyone is now involved.”
Laporta came out a few hours after Real Madrid, the only LaLiga club that had stayed out of the matterwill announce that he will appear in the Negreira case procedure.
The white club assured that it will do so “as soon as the judge opens it to the affected parties”, after showing its “deep concern” given the seriousness of the facts and the “serious accusations” made by the Prosecutor’s Office against FC Barcelona.
In a message on twitter (in Catalan and Spanish), the Barça president came forward, addressed the Barça fans and told them that they had to “be calm”.
“Barça is innocent of what they are accused of and the victim of a campaign against their honor in which they are now all. No surprise, we will defend Barça and demonstrate the Club’s innocence. Many will have to rectify”, affirmed the Barcelona leader.
The Prosecutor’s Office has denounced FC Barcelona, its former presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell for the alleged million-dollar payments to the former referee José María Enríquez Negreira to “favor” the Barça club in the “decision-making of the referees” in the matches that disputed.
The Prosecutor’s Office, which proposes that the current president of Barça, Joan Laporta, be summoned as a witness, has filed a complaint before the investigating court number 1 of Barcelona -so that it accumulates it in the preliminary proceedings initiated as a result of a complaint filed by the VAR referee Estrada Fernández against Negreira-, for the crimes of corruption between individuals, unfair administration and document falsification.
