Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are newlyweds, but as you know, they met for the first time in the early 2000s, a relationship that ended in tears. “It honestly felt like I was going to die,” Lopez says of the breakup in an interview with Apple Music.
It was when Jennifer Lopez was interviewed by Apple Music on the occasion of her upcoming record release that she talked about the powerful effect that her breakup with Ben Affleck in 2004 had on her.
“The most heartbreaking thing I’ve been through”
Lopez’s new album This Is Me…Now is a sequel to the album This Is Me… Then from 2003. The new record will be released next year and, like its predecessor, a large part of the inspiration for the record comes from the star’s relationship with Ben Affleck.
Affleck and Lopez were first engaged in the early 2000s but separated in 2004. Seventeen years after the breakup, in 2021, the couple reunited and this summer they threw a big wedding in Ben’s home in Georgia, USA.
During an interview with Apple Music, Lopez explains how the breakup with Affleck affected her career:
“I couldn’t even perform these songs,” she says of the album This Is Me… Then. “Putting that wedding on hold for twenty years was the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever been through. It honestly felt like I was going to die. It started a vicious cycle that lasted for the next eighteen years as I just couldn’t do the right thing,” she says, continuing:
“But now, twenty years later, it has a happy ending. It has the most unlikely Hollywood ending ever.”
