After a long controversy, finally the Mexican defender Julián Araujo was presented as a new FC Barcelona player for the next three seasons. However, the winger will join the Barca B discipline under the command of his compatriot Rafa Márquez, coach of that category.
The announcement was official this Friday at noon. Both FC Barcelona and LA Galaxy confirmed the agreement in which the Los Angeles team would receive a percentage in the event of a future sale of Araujo to another club.
Through a statement released to the media, the LA Galaxy shared the feelings of the coach and sports director Greg Vanney regarding this transfer.
“Julián’s incorporation to FC Barcelona is a great story of a boy from southern California who went through the LA Galaxy Academy, LA Galaxy II and excelled with the LA Galaxy first team (…) we wish all the best to Julián in the next stage of his career”he assured.
Through the social networks of FC Barcelona B and his agent, Xavi Giménez, it was possible to see the first images of the Aztec player signing his contract and wearing the Barça colours.
“The footballer has signed his new contract at the Ciudad Deportiva Joan Gamper offices, and has been accompanied by Vice President Rafael Yuste; the manager responsible for Training Football, Joan Soler; the director of Football, Mateu Alemany; the sports director, Jordi Cruyff, and the director of Training Football, José Ramón Alexanco”, reported the Barcelona team.
First statements as a FC Barcelona player
Araujo has already spoken his first words as a Barca footballer and he was very happy with this new project. “Very happy with this great step in my career and ready to give it my all for this great club,” he told the media that were waiting for him in Barcelona.
At just 21 years old, the winger played 108 games with the LA Galaxy shirt where he scored two goals and served 20 assists. Araujo is already an international with Mexico and has played three games (two as a starter). His debut took place against Chile on August 13, 2021.
It should be remembered that the signing of the defender by FC Barcelona was cut short in the last hours of the winter transfer market on January 31 due to a format error that prevented the documentation from being uploaded on time and which arrived with a delay of 18 seconds.
