How to apply vinyl flooring at home
In addition to representing modernity and comfort as some of the highlights of vinyl flooring, the coating is known to be very resistant, it is thermal and, therefore, maintains pleasant temperatures in the environments.
Other advantages of the coating that we can highlight are its high durability, easy cleaning, in addition to the fact that it is hypoallergenic and soft. Another great benefit of the vinyl floor is the installation, which is quick and easy precisely because the piece is sold with glue, click or self-adhesive systems. Being ecologically correct, the floor can be applied directly on the cemented subfloor or on the ceramic tile.
What are the procedures?
Let’s start with them. Prior to installation care must be taken of the location. The subfloor where the vinyl will be applied must be dry, firm, level and have low porosity. A leveling compound made of cement and PVA glue can prepare the surface to receive the coating.
In case the subfloor has already received a vinyl floor and the intention is to change it, it is recommended that the black glue be removed with a spatula or coarse sandpaper. Petroleum products are not recommended for this removal process.
Can I apply the floor over a coating?
The answer is yes! Vinyl floors can be applied over other coatings. Wood, however, is not highly recommended due to the possibility of warping over time. Ceramics and porcelain tiles are easier to receive vinyl flooring. Leveling putty should be applied so that joints and imperfections are not apparent. If the subfloor is made of burnt cement, it is necessary to carry out an anchoring process, where grooves are made in the floor.
It is also important to realize that the original coating is not preserved. There are few options on the market that do not require glue, which use a system of vinyl strips with a male-female connection.
How is the installation done?
Come on. The installation depends a lot on the model of the floor, which varies in plank or plate, and on the type of application, click or glue. The click application is more interesting, as it allows the floor to be reused in other environments and speeds up the process.
Next, follow the application steps according to the Leroy Merlin🇧🇷
- Choose installation location
The planks must be installed parallel to the widest wall in the room. Start the installation in the most visible place in the room, so that the last planks are in a place with little visibility.
- Remove protective paper
Remove the protective paper covering the adhesive part of the 1st plank.
- Install in the longitudinal direction
With the 1st plank very close to the wall, press to fix it on the floor. Repeat the procedure until the row is finished.
- Finish the 1st row
The last ruler in the row must be adjusted for length. Cut it with the decorative side down to avoid damage from the stylus. The cut part will face the wall.
- Install in crosswise direction
Start the 2nd row using a ruler cut in half, so that the seam is aligned in the middle of the ruler of the previous row.
- fix the rulers
With the planks very close to those of the 1st row, fix them by pressing them against the floor. Make the 3rd row as the 1st, and the 4th as the 2nd, alternately until the installation is complete.
- Install the last row
You may need to adjust the width of the rulers. Align a ruler according to the previous one. Then place another ruler on top and drag it to the wall. The width left over from the first plank will be ideal to complete the installation. Cut with the stylus.
Fix the baseboards to the wall with glue and headless nails.
How to clean PVC floor?
We can say that cleaning will not be a problem. The first cleaning must be done five days after the installation, to ensure that the floor is already firm and installed correctly. After this period, you can clean with a broom or damp cloth with neutral detergent. Avoid using soaps, solvents, abrasive chemicals and steel wool. The most important thing is not to wet the floor too much, so as not to weaken the glue. Wet, dry. Smoother textures tend to collect less dirt in the grooves. Keep this in mind when choosing your PVC flooring.
