Lightening your hair is associated with a lot of care. It means frequent visits to the hairdresser and at least some damage (no matter what products you use). So how can you enjoy lighter hair without paying the bill for harmful methods? The good news is that there are some natural products you can use to lighten your hair. First of all, you should know that while these methods are not as effective as bleach, they can still achieve the desired result. Here you will find gentle tricks to lighten up!
Getting Lighter Dark Hair With Vitamin C
Vitamin C is not only a face brightener, it can also serve as a hair brightener. Recently, it has become a trend to lighten unwanted hair color in hair: Vitamin C removes some of the artificial hair color from the hair cuticle layer, but not all of the hair color. Vitamin C powder can be a great lightener, but to see results in your natural hair color, you may need to apply it five or six times.
You can try the following: Mix the vitamin C powder and clarifying shampoo in equal parts in a bowl. Massage the mixture all over your hair and cover your head with a shower cap. Leave the mixture for an hour. Then rinse them well and then use a deep care to moisturize your hair.
Lighten hair with home remedies – lemon juice
The vitamin C contained in lemon juice can lighten your hair without the use of chemicals. This method works best with naturally light or blonde tones and is quite ineffective for black hair.
You need 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 250 ml of water. Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle. Apply the mixture to the hair, especially the hair roots. After that, let your hair dry in the sun for a few hours. Finally, rinse and care for them. You can also use lemon vodka instead of lemon juice for an even better result.
How to Lighten Your Hair Naturally with Baking Soda
While baking soda is best known for naturally whitening teeth, it can do the same for your hair. If you’ve dyed your hair poorly or dyed it dark before and now want to lighten it again, baking soda might be a viable option to try. However, when applied to non-irritated hair, it usually doesn’t have a great shine effect.
If you opt for baking soda, apply a paste to your hair, just like you do to your teeth. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with 75 ml of warm water and make sure the paste is not too thick or too runny. Apply the mixture with a brush and try your hand on a homemade balayage. Leave them on for 20 minutes.
Getting lighter with natural means – Chamomile
Just like the tea you drink to soothe you before bed, chamomile can lighten your hair when mixed with honey or just applied straight. However, you will see less noticeable strands, but rather a change in the overall color. Chamomile would almost cause a tone shift, which is more noticeable in bright light or natural light. It is less aggressive and therefore gentler than other natural products.
All you have to do is brew chamomile as a tea. Allow to cool and then apply with a spray bottle. Saturate hair from root to tip and leave the tea on for at least 30 minutes, but no longer than an hour. Wash and care for your hair, or use a hair mask if you suffer from dryness.
Lighten up with Honey, Vinegar and Cinnamon
Vinegar and honey can lighten hair in just 10 minutes. You can even apply this solution at night and thus achieve natural strands while sleeping.
You need 500 ml of white vinegar, 340 g of raw honey, 1 tablespoon of virgin olive oil and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Mix the ingredients and apply them to damp hair. For a more even distribution, you can comb through your hair. Alternatively, you can apply the ingredients only to the places where you want to have hair. After application, wrap hair in cling film or a shower cap. Leave the mixture on for 10 minutes until overnight before rinsing.
Gently lighten hair with salt water
If you’ve ever spent a day at the beach and swam in the sea, you might have noticed that at the end of the day, some natural strands emerged. That’s because salt water helps lift the outer layer of hair so the sun can lighten your hair from the inside. However, depending on your natural hair color, it can take several beach trips to achieve a sun-kissed look. So don’t be discouraged if your hair isn’t particularly shiny after just one treatment.
Dissolve a tablespoon of salt in 120 ml of water. Place the mixture in a spray bottle and spray the entire head until it is saturated. Leave the mixture in the sun for 20 minutes to an hour.
