The British royal family has asked Harry and Meghan to leave their home in the UK, it reports The Sun. The decision is said to have been made by King Charles, who is now offering the residence to Prince Andrew.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to move out of their British home, Frogmore Cottage, which is located near Windsor Castle.
Renovated for SEK 30 million
The couple – who left the UK and their royal duties in 2020 – now live in California but have kept Frogmore Cottage as their UK base.
Last year they celebrated their daughter Lilibet’s first birthday in the property, and according to CBS was also where they stayed when they attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral last September.
Between 2018 and 2019, Harry and Meghan had extensive renovations carried out on the house. The renovations amounted to approximately 2.4 million pounds, which corresponds to approximately 30 million Swedish kronor.
According to British The Sun Prince Harry is said to have agreed with his family to continue renting Frogmore Cottage for “several years” to come, after he himself covered the costs of the renovations.
Offers the residence to Prince Andrew
The Sun was first to report that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to move out of the residence – a report that has been confirmed by a spokesperson for the couple.
According to the reports, it is King Charles himself who made the decision, which can be seen as malicious as it comes shortly after the launch of Prince Harry’s much talked about memoir.
Instead, the property has been offered to the king’s brother, Prince Andrew. Like Harry and Meghan, Prince Andrew is no longer a so-called senior member of the British royal family – he relinquished his royal duties after a high-profile interview with the BBC about his friendship with billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
Epstein took his own life in 2019 when he was accused of multiple sexual abuse and trafficking of minors. One of Epstein’s victims, Virginia Giuffre, has accused Prince Andrew of raping her when she was seventeen. They agreed to a settlement last year.
