One of the latinos most important of the classical music in the world, Gustavo Dudamel, will turn a change that already leaves a void in some and causes a lot of emotion in others, not only in the chamber music environment, but also in the Hispanic community in the United States. The Venezuelan will cease to be the musical and artistic director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and will hold the same position but at the New York Philharmonic.

On the website of the NY Phil already appears as the new Musical Director and Artist of that institution. La La Phil has not yet officially pronounced except on its social networks, as this change will not be immediate for the venezuelan Gustavo Dudamel. Same as also works as director of the National Opera of Paris and of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of his native Venezuela.

The New York Philharmonic announced in the voice of its own Chairman and CEO Deborah Borda and its Chairman Peter W. May and Oscar L. Tang, that for the year 2026-27 the director Gustavo Dudamel will be directing the orchestra. These after that Jaap Van Zweden finish his season under the same charge. The Venezuelan will be in charge of the NY Phil for five years. Let’s remember that has conducted the LA Phil for 13 years.

Of course he will be received with all the honors he deserves in The big Apple by the musical organization on February 20. There will be a press conference and the official announcement of Gustavo Dudamel as musical and artistic director of the New York Philharmonic will be made.

“On behalf of the board of directors, we are very pleased that Gustavo Dudamel has agreed to direct our creative future”, were the words of Peter W. May and Oscar L. Tang. Regarding the 42-year-old musician, he assured: “…I am grateful to the musicians and leadership of the New York Philharmonic as we embark on this beautiful new path together.”

He also took advantage of directing a heartfelt message to what has been his home for a long time, la la phil: “Thank you to my loving Los Angeles Philharmonic and YOLA family for helping me learn and grow through countless challenges and triumphs.; already me Master Abreu and the musicians of Venezuela who have been with me from the beginning.” There is no doubt that it is an important change that continues to leave the name of Hispanics in the world very high.
