Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa is having a great season on his return to Europe after several years with America. The Mexican goalkeeper revealed that he aspires to continue defending the goal of the Mexican team and that he spoke with Diego Cocca to continue being with El Tri.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper said that he spoke with the new coach of the Mexican team and that his goal is to continue fighting for one of the places in the table.
“I spoke with him and he told me that he considers me in the new project that he is going to start. I want to continue contributing to the National Team, and also contributing in case it is necessary to support young people. Of course, I’m not going to make it easy for them and I’m going to keep fighting to be on the list,” said the Mexican in an interview with Clear brand.
Memo Ochoa is 18 years old wearing the El Tri goalkeeper shirt and one of his goals is to reach the 2026 World Cup from Mexico, the United States and Canada. Ochoa has a total of 135 games played and four Gold Cups.
“He talked to several players, and me too. We chat about the future, about our National Team, we exchange experiences, and asked me what we could improve. We all have to go hand in hand so that we can have a different World Cup, a good World Cup at home in 2026. It was a presentation from the coach to the player to move forward together,” Ochoa said of Diego Cocca.
Ochoa also revealed the situation that occurred after the end of the Qatar 2022 World Cup in which he was waiting for a renewal offer with América so he had to look for other options and chose Salernitana from Serie A.
“After the World Cup, I had to explore other options. I didn’t want to stop after Qatar or have a vacation. I don’t like them and I haven’t had many in my life. I spoke to the club and I accepted. I’ll be there for six months, and then we’ll see if another year. At the moment, we see these six months. It is a sacrifice because I came here without my wife and three children”, she highlighted.
The Mexican goalkeeper explained that living outside of Mexico has also been better for his quality of life because soccer is not so aggressive in Mexico, so his life in Salerno, Italy, has changed a lot.
“In Italy my life has changed in everything. Here everything is less aggressive than in Mexico, and it’s easier for me to go out for a coffee, eat or go to the supermarket. I gain in quality of life being outside of Mexico,” he said.
