Guillermo Almada, coach of Pachuca, congratulated Diego Cocca on his appointment as coach of the Mexican soccer team and assured that the issue of directing El Tri is a closed chapter after he was a candidate for the position.
“Thank the committee of owners who listened to our proposal, to [Rodrigo] Ares de Parga, to [Jaime] Kind regards, congratulate Diego Cocca, thank everyone who thought I could be in the Mexican National Team”, commented Guillermo Almada, after the draw with Chivas de Guadalajara 1-1.
Almada was one of the names that sounded loudest for the position of technical director for El Tri along with Miguel Herrera, Ignacio Ambriz, Antonio Mohamed.
“I had a call from Ares de Parga and Ordiales, which I am grateful for, it is a closed chapter, all the support I can give to the National Team. The support to the Owners Committee and to all of the Mexican National Team”, added Almada.
The Pachuca coach also stressed that Cocca has the team’s doors open for whatever he needs in search of putting together a good group within the Mexican team for what will be the 2026 World Cup process.
The new technical director of Mexico announced that he will visit the Liga MX stadiums one by one to observe players and learn about processes, in which Almada will open the doors of Pachuca to help him.
“We have the doors open for Diego, training sessions, matches, we will be available for any request. Whatever you want, we are at your entire disposal, that the National Team works well and achieves its goals”, highlighted the Pachuca coach.
Thus began the era of Tigres without Diego Cocca, the legendary French footballer, André-Pierre Gignac led Tigres to victory over Pumas with a score of 4-2, the first of the feline eleven without Cocca on the bench. Gignac converted a pair of goals to take his team to second place in the Clausura Tournament below Monterrey and above Pachuca, which is third in Liga MX.
