Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady’s divorce became one of last year’s most talked about events in the celebrity and sports world. Now Bündchen opens up about the separation in an interview in Vanity Fair.
Last October, supermodel Gisele Bündchen and her husband, NFL star Tom Brady, separated after thirteen years of marriage. In connection with the separation, rumors abounded that Bündchen had demanded that her husband retire, something she denies in the interview with Vanity Fair.
She calls the rumors “very hurtful” and “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard”:
“I’ve always been rooting for him, and I could continue to do so forever. If there’s anyone I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me. I want him to succeed. I want all his dreams to come true. That’s what I want, really, from the bottom of my heart”.
She adds:
“What has been said is a piece of a much bigger puzzle. It’s not black or white.”
Gisele Bündchen: “Sometimes you grow apart”
According to the model, it was rather different priorities that caused the marriage to end – she and Brady “wanted different things”:
“Sometimes you grow together, sometimes you grow apart. We met when I was 26 and he was 29, we wanted a family, we wanted to do things together. Over time we realized that we wanted different things, and now we have a choice to make. It doesn’t mean you don’t love the other person. It just means that in order for you to be authentic and truly live the life you want to live, you have to have someone you can meet in the middle, right? It’s a dance. It’s a balance.”

At the same time, Bündchen says that the divorce has affected her deeply:
“It’s like a death and rebirth. It’s hard because you imagine your life to be a certain way, and you did everything you could,” she says. “You give everything you have to achieve your dream. You give one hundred percent of yourself, and it’s devastating when it doesn’t end up the way you’d hoped, and worked for, but you can only do your part.”
Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady started dating in 2006 and married in 2009. They have children Benjamin, 13, and Vivian, 10, together. Brady also has a son Jack, 15, from a previous relationship.
