Research has shown that a sedentary lifestyle, even in a short period of time, can cause long-term effects on the human body. A study carried out by the University of Bath, in the United Kingdom, revealed that this damage can be controlled with daily practice 45 minutes of physical activity. The study also says that the benefit occurs even in those who consumed a much higher caloric percentage, a common fact at the end of the year festivities.
In the study, researchers concluded that exercising in times of overeating, such as Christmas, helps stabilize blood sugar levels and prevents metabolism damage.
Exercises to Compensate for Christmas Overeating
In a group of 26 healthy men, 13 of them practiced only exercises on the treadmill for 45 minutes, while the other half remained inactive, without practicing any type of physical activity.
Participants were recommended to ingest calories at will, without restrictions. In addition to the consumption carried out naturally, their diets had a caloric increase, manipulated by doctors, of 50% for sedentary people, and 75% for those who practiced some type of physical activity.
However, after a week, the group of inactive men showed levels of sugar that were considered high, while the group of men who used the exercises to compensate for Christmas excesses did not show side effects from excess calories.
For the men who remained thirstyrios, the result was even worse: according to the study of fat cells, it was found that the metabolism was slower, ineffective at processing meals increased by the delights of festivities.
